Kelly Rowland has alerted her followers after discovering that a fraudster is trying to deceive them by pretending to be her and Beyoncé.
Kelly Rowland is putting scammers on blast and warning fans to stay alert after discovering a fake account impersonating her and Beyoncé to swindle money.
The Destiny’s Child star took to Instagram to call out the fraudster after one of her fans received a direct message from the fake account.
Kelly Rowland took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a direct message sent to one of her followers. The message, purportedly from Kelly, claimed that she had lost her credit card and urgently needed money for a plane ticket.
The message read: “Hey, this is Kelly from Destiny’s Child. I lost my credit card, and I need money for a plain ticket so I can fly to your city to perform. Can you send me some money?”
Kelly didn’t hold back in addressing the ridiculous message. Sharing a screenshot of the DM on her Instagram Stories, she captioned it: “Be careful out here! This is fake af!”
Not one to miss a chance for humor, Kelly also pointed out the scammer’s embarrassing typo, adding, “And don’t you think I know how to spell P-L-A-N-E!”
Unsurprisingly, the scammer tried to use Kelly Rowland and Beyonce in their scrupulous business. The friendship between the two musicians spans over thirty years. They transitioned from cohabiting to sharing the stage, eventually becoming aunts to one another’s kids.
When Rowland was 11, she began living with Beyoncé and her family, as stated by Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, in a 2015 essay for TIME. Before Rowland moved in, she and Beyoncé had already started singing together at the age of 9, eventually forming their iconic girl group, Destiny’s Child, as Beyoncé mentioned in a 2004 interview.
Celebrities have previously encountered impersonation scams on social media. Scammers frequently exploit fans by masquerading as their beloved stars, exploiting their admiration to obtain money or personal information.
Kelly’s alert is a crucial reminder for fans to stay vigilant. It’s essential to confirm the authenticity of messages that seem to come from celebrities, particularly those requesting money or personal information.
