A Black-owned small business owner is calling foul play after Diddy’s 18-year-old twin daughters, Jessie and D’Lila, just announced their new fashion brand, 12TWINTY1.
The comb twins might be in trouble.
Jessie and D’Lila Combs, daughters of hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, just debuted their brand-new fashion line, 12TWINTY1, but not everyone is clapping. In fact, one designer is accusing them of stealing, and social media is listening.
Imanii Marshall, the Black designer behind 1221 Apparel, took to TikTok to air her frustrations. Her video, now making rounds, calls out what she believes is a blatant ripoff of her brand, from the name all the way down to the aesthetic.
“I’m making this video because it’s so frustrating when you put actual blood, sweat, and tears into something you care so much about,” Imanii said. “This happens to a lot of small Black-owned businesses where celebrities or big corporations will steal their ideas, they will steal their names.”
Imanii didn’t just vent, she brought receipts. After receiving a video of the twins’ brand announcement, she compared their 12TWINTY1 logo to her 1221 Apparel logo and couldn’t ignore the similarities. Both designs feature the number 1221 prominently, and to Imanii, the connection was too close for comfort.
She shared more of her story, adding, “I also have a short film on my Instagram page that tells you a little bit more about my story, my background. I’ve given everything to grow this brand.”
Meanwhile, over on Instagram, Jessie and D’Lila dropped a high-energy video on July 7 announcing the launch of 12TWINTY1, dancing in unison and beaming with pride.
“This line is more than just fashion. It’s personal to us,” Jessie said.
D’Lila chimed in, “Everyone always asks if we really think alike, and the answer is definitely. That connection is the heart of our brand.”
To be clear, the twins haven’t directly addressed Imanii’s claims. Their fans and followers are praising the brand launch, but Imanii’s callout has sparked a wave of support for 1221 Apparel, with many calling for accountability.
