HOT 97’s annual Summer Jam was nothing short of extraordinary with some of hip hop’s hottest stars taking the stage to perform their chart-topping hits. But what has most people talking is a possible clap back some fans think Cardi B shot at fellow rap star Ice Spice.
During Cardi B’s set Saturday, she began playing the Annie classic Tomorrow alongside GloRilla. Behind them, were images of the film’s protagonist twerking, which people were made to believe was a shot at Ice Spice, who had just performed earlier that evening.
After social media went abuzz about the possible shade, the WAP star took to Instagram Live to address the allegations.
“For y’all mother fucke*s that’s on Twitter tryna be messy, please, cut the bullsh*t,” she stated. “Come on now. First of all, y’all been wanting me to be messy all day. Y’all wanted me to be messy on the song… nah, please, come on now. Cut the bullsh*t, please. Get the mop. Y’all being too messy and y’all being annoying. Thank you everybody. We outside. And make sure y’all download Put It On The Floor Again.”
Last year, the Bronx native shared her version of Ice Spice’s hit record Munch (Feelin’ U), adding her own bars. Fans began to think Cardi and the fellow Bronx star would be collaborating on the record together but the 30-year-old mother of two shut down the rumors. Then in May of this year, the Money rapper defended the No Clarity emcee from naysayers who believed she was an industry plant.
“When it comes to other female rappers’ success that’s happening now, some females are going to come up faster than others,” Cardi explained. “The labels are putting money behind the girls who people are listening to. So if you feel like somebody is coming really fast, that’s because y’all [are] listening to them… You can’t hate on nobody else’s come up.”
At the time of this writing, Ice Spice has yet to respond to melee.
