The Indianapolis community is grieving the loss of 30-year-old Chanti Dixon, a devoted mother of two, whose life was tragically cut short following a night out.
Dixon, who worked at a local nightclub, disappeared in the early hours of Sunday morning after taking an Uber ride home. She was later found dead in a wooded area near her residence, the victim of a horrific crime.
Dixon’s family became concerned when she didn’t return home and used her phone’s location to track her.
This led to the discovery of her body and the eventual arrest of Francisco Valadez, the 29-year-old Uber driver who picked her up that night.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Valadez initially claimed that an armed man had attacked Dixon while she was in his vehicle. However, after further investigation, he confessed to raping and killing her.
Authorities believe Valadez carried out the attack just steps away from Dixon’s new home on Earhart Street, where she had recently moved with her children, Dashun, 13, and Chianti, 10. Dixon’s mother, Rise Dixon, described her daughter as selfless and full of life.
“You could never miss her presence,” she shared, reflecting on the profound impact Dixon had on those around her.
Indianapolis Police Chief Chris Bailey condemned the crime as “senseless and tragic,” and Valadez has been charged with murder. As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family has launched a GoFundMe page to support Dixon’s children, who are now without their mother.
Uber, the company through which Valadez was employed, expressed its condolences to the family during this difficult time.
