Claressa Shields has made it clear that Jake Paul wouldn’t stand a chance against her in the ring.
In a bold statement during her appearance on The Pacman Jones Show on BET Online, Shields confidently declared that if she ever stepped into the ring with Paul—wearing 10-ounce gloves and no headgear—he wouldn’t stand a chance.
Shields, who has built an illustrious career in women’s boxing, didn’t hold back when discussing Paul’s boxing skills—or lack thereof. While Paul has made waves in the influencer boxing scene with seven knockouts to his name, Shields emphasized that his amateur status and limited experience would be no match for her elite training and technical prowess.
When host Adam “Pacman” Jones asked Shields about the possibility of facing Jake Paul in the ring, her response was as fiery as her punches.
“How the f— is he going to knock me out if he can’t land no punch? He is an amateur,” Shields said bluntly. She went on to highlight her extensive experience sparring against male fighters, stating, “I spar against men 24/7, and the men I spar against will whoop Jake Paul’s a–. So [there] ain’t no doubt in my mind what I would do to that amateur.”
As a multi-weight world champion and a pioneer in women’s boxing, Claressa Shields has earned remarkable achievements throughout her career. She is one of only four boxers—regardless of gender—in history to possess all four major world titles (WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO) across two weight classes. Shields is widely acclaimed for her intense commitment to the sport and her technical skills in boxing, while Jake Paul has gained recognition as a professional boxer after his initial fame as a YouTube star.
In November, Jake Paul triumphed over former undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson in a widely publicized match on Netflix. At 27, Paul secured a unanimous decision victory against the 58-year-old Tyson, improving his boxing record to 11-1.
Despite gaining fame by winning against former fighters and amassing a series of victories, Shields feels there’s a significant distinction between their abilities.
While Shields’ comments have sparked excitement among boxing fans, it’s unclear whether a fight between her and Jake Paul would ever materialize. Paul has primarily focused on fighting male opponents, and a matchup against Shields would undoubtedly be unconventional. However, given Paul’s knack for generating buzz and Shields’ willingness to take on any challenge, the idea isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility.
