Woman Gives Birth in Parking Lot During Snowstorm

An Alabama mother’s late-night doughnut cravings turned into an unforgettable delivery story when she gave birth to her son in a Krispy Kreme parking lot during a rare snowstorm.

Sha’Nya Bennett, 23, welcomed her second child, Dallas, on Jan. 22 after unexpectedly going into labor amid icy road conditions in Dothan, Alabama.

With the city nearly shut down from the storm, she and her partner, Keon Mitchell, 24, attempted to reach the hospital but found themselves running out of time.

“The roads were really snowy and icy, so I called 911 and told them the situation,” Mitchell said. “They said to either keep driving or pull over and wait for help.”

Just a mile from the hospital, Bennett’s water broke as they sat at a stoplight near Krispy Kreme. With the roads too dangerous to continue, she insisted they pull into the parking lot—where the famous doughnut shop was closed due to the storm.

That’s when their baby made his dramatic entrance.

“The baby was coming out, and Sha’Nya told me to grab him,” Mitchell said. “Within seconds, I was holding him. It was mind-blowing.”

Paramedics arrived minutes later to cut the umbilical cord and transport Bennett and baby Dallas to the hospital. Both mother and child were discharged in good health two days later.

After hearing about the unique birth, the Dothan Krispy Kreme manager offered Bennett a sweet reward—one dozen free doughnuts every week for a year.

“I have four kids of my own, so I can only imagine what that must have been like for her to give birth in our parking lot in the cold,” manager Blake Rosenkoetter said.

He also offered to host an annual birthday party for Dallas at Krispy Kreme until he turns 18.

While relatives have suggested giving Dallas the middle name “Glaze,” Bennett and Mitchell are still undecided. One thing’s for sure—Dallas will grow up with plenty of doughnuts and a birth story as sweet as it gets.
