A male Uber driver is currently under investigation after he was recorded attempting to rape a female rider as she lay unconscious in the back of his vehicle.
On April 10, a good Samaritan shared the video of the perp on Twitter.
In the footage, the man behind the camera exclaims, “Yo, what are you doing? Brother, [it’s the] month of Ramadan and you’re doing stuff like this?” You’re f*cking raping a girl in the back, you dirty bastard?”
The driver, obviously stunned and dumbfounded, proceeds to go back to the driver’s side of the vehicle and says “I’m sorry” repeatedly before driving off with the woman still in the backseat.
Some reports say it appears the driver pulled over in a neighborhood to commit the crime when he was caught red-handed. The individual recording the attempted rape was able to capture the Uber sticker plastered on the driver’s side of the vehicle and recorded the driver’s license plate as he fled the scene.
Uber Support has seen the video, prompting its team to release a statement following the assault.
“This video is horrifying, and we are taking action. We’ve banned the driver and are in contact with the police and will assist them with any investigation,” Uber wrote on Twitter Tuesday.
It is unknown where the incident took place although the driver’s side of the vehicle is on the right, which is common in some countries in Europe and Asia.
In December, a 54-year-old New Orleans Police Department employee who picked up a part-time gig as an Uber driver was found dead after a passenger brutally killed her while working an evening shift.
Yolanda Dillion, 54, had responded to a request for a pickup at the Jefferson Parish Travelodge hotel in Louisiana’s capital. When she arrived, the suspect stabbed her to death in the hotel’s parking lot.
Dillion was rushed to a local hospital where she died of her injuries.
The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Brandon Jacobs and has been charged with second-degree murder. He is being held without bond.
