‘Don’t Stop Asking Questions’: Mother of 10-Year-Old Minka Green Speaks Out After Daughter’s Tragic Flu-Related Death

by Gee NY

The mother of Minka Green, a 10-year-old girl who died from flu complications, is urging parents to take flu symptoms seriously after her daughter’s sudden and heartbreaking passing in late January.

Kymesha White, Minka’s mother, shared her devastating experience in an interview with Fox 5, urging parents to advocate for their children’s health even when doctors say it’s “just the flu.”

“Get your child checked out. Don’t stop just because the doctors say it’s just the flu,” White said. “Because they told us her brain was swelling. So I feel like if they probably could have done a little more.”

White recalled the terrifying moment when Minka’s condition worsened:

“She was screaming about not being able to feel her legs and feet. When we got to the hospital and they put her in the room, my husband noticed she wasn’t breathing.”

Health and Safety Measures

Minka had not received a flu shot, her mother confirmed.

Following her passing, Prince George’s County Public Schools announced that they are increasing disinfection measures, limiting high-contact activities, and offering flu shot clinics to protect students.

Additional steps include enhanced cleaning on school buses, and the distribution of hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies across campuses.

Remembering Minka Green

Minka was a vibrant child who loved dancing, cheering, making TikTok videos, cooking, and attending church with her great-grandmother.

Her tragic passing has ignited conversations about flu prevention and the importance of early medical intervention.

For parents, health officials recommend annual flu vaccinations, monitoring symptoms closely, and seeking immediate medical attention if flu symptoms rapidly worsen.
