Dr. Iman Abuzeid, CEO of health tech hiring platform Incredible Health, has propelled the company to unicorn status with a valuation of $1.65 billion.
This historic achievement places her among a group of few Black women globally who have accomplished this feat, including music icon Rihanna.
Abuzeid revealed the milestone in a blog post, expressing pride in the company’s transformational impact on healthcare hiring.
“As the highest valued tech-enabled career marketplace in healthcare, we’ve transformed how nurses are hired and will build on this work to help health systems and healthcare workers manage surging patient demand in the midst of a national labor crisis,” she stated.
The Series B round, led by Base 10 Partners, attracted investments from prominent entities such as Andreessen Horowitz, Obvious Ventures, and NBA player Andre Iguodala.
This funding will further support Incredible Health’s mission of connecting health organizations with qualified nurses to address the severe nursing shortage exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Nurses are the backbone of the US healthcare system and they deserve the well-staffed teams and tools to not only succeed, but also feel fulfilled in their careers,” Abuzeid emphasized. “We’re excited to accelerate our growth to affect even more change for US healthcare workers and health systems.”
Reflecting on the company’s journey, Abuzeid highlighted the increased interest following social upheavals, emphasizing that the focus was on the company’s growth rather than her race.
“I don’t think it’s because of my race, it’s because of the growth of the company, but it definitely doesn’t hurt that people are paying even more attention to Black founders,” she remarked.
