Former Miss Jamaica Universe and international model Davina Bennett is recovering in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle in New York City on Saturday evening, Sept. 13, 2025, shortly after leaving a New York Fashion Week runway show.
Bennett, 29, who represented Jamaica at Miss Universe 2017, was reportedly hit while crossing the street just minutes away from her residence.
She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where doctors confirmed that although she sustained bruises and severe pain, she miraculously avoided broken bones or fractures.
A Frightening Turn After a Milestone Moment

The accident happened during what was supposed to be a celebratory week for the model, who had just achieved her long-time dream of walking the NYFW runway.
Bennett made her debut at Harlem Fashion Row’s 18th Annual Runway Show and Style Awards and later appeared in Atelier Ndigo by Haitian designer Waina Chancy as well as KBB by Kahlana, a collaboration between Kahlana Barfield Brown and Target.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Bennett recounted the terrifying moment:
“I stopped at a pedestrian crossing. I pressed the walk signal button… When the signal came, I stepped off the curb, and that’s when I was hit! The next thing I knew, I was waking up in an ambulance, with paramedics telling me what had happened.”

She admitted to being scared and disoriented, describing her mind as a “complete blank.” Despite the setback, Bennett expressed gratitude:
“I’m currently in severe pain, but I’m grateful to be alive. They say as long as you have life, there’s hope. This was unfortunate, but it won’t be the end of my journey.”
Support and Strength
The Jamaican beauty queen, who placed as second runner-up at Miss Universe 2017, has long been admired not only for her runway work but also for championing natural beauty and representation in fashion. Fans and supporters across the Caribbean and international fashion community have flooded her social media with messages of encouragement.
While the accident has sidelined her from completing her first NYFW season, Bennett insists her determination remains intact. Her story is already being framed as one of resilience, grace, and perseverance—a hallmark of her career.
