Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B caused a stir on social media Tuesday night after posting, then quickly deleting, a video that humorously hinted at a connection between election results and natural disasters.
In the video, shared to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Cardi used a face filter and quipped:
“This is why some of y’all states be getting hurricanes.”
Although she didn’t name specific states, her timing—right after Donald Trump’s victory in hurricane-prone states like Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and North Carolina—left many followers guessing her intended target.
The deleted post didn’t escape attention, and X users swiftly criticized Cardi’s remark, interpreting it as a swipe at Trump-supporting states.
Cardi’s politically charged commentary didn’t stop there; she later expressed her disappointment over early polling results with a candid “We need a hail mary” post as Kamala Harris lagged behind Trump in key swing states.
Cardi has been vocal about her support for Harris throughout the election, even speaking at a Milwaukee rally on women’s rights. However, her endorsement led to an online clash with X CEO Elon Musk, a Trump supporter.
Musk went so far as to call Cardi a “puppet,” questioning her authenticity. In response, Cardi defended herself, saying:
“I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you,” and added, “You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle… PS fix my algorithm.”
Cardi’s outspoken political views have made her a divisive figure online.
