A Georgia woman is facing murder charges after authorities say she took abortion medication and later gave birth to an infant who died hours later.
According to police in Kingsland, Georgia, 31-year-old Alexia Moore was arrested following an investigation into a December 2025 incident involving abortion medication.
Police reports state that Moore took 200 milligrams of Misoprostol on the evening of Dec. 29. The drug is commonly used in combination with Mifepristone in medication abortions.

Hospital Visit and Infant’s Death
Authorities say Moore was taken the following morning to the emergency room at Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus, where she gave birth.
According to reports cited by local media, the infant—described by an acquaintance as approximately five-and-a-half months gestational age—died several hours later.
Law enforcement officials said the case prompted an investigation involving the sheriff’s office and social services.
Charges Filed
Following the investigation, Moore was arrested on March 4 and charged with murder, possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, according to police records.
Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the medical circumstances surrounding the birth or the infant’s death.
Legal Context
The case has drawn attention because of Georgia’s abortion law, known as the Georgia Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act, often referred to as the state’s “heartbeat law.”
The law, which took effect on July 20, 2022, bans most abortions once fetal cardiac activity is detected—typically around five or six weeks of pregnancy.
Legal experts note that prosecutions involving abortion medication and homicide charges remain relatively rare, and it is not yet clear how prosecutors will argue the case in court.
Case Still Developing
Officials have declined to comment further while the case remains in its early stages.
Reporters who contacted Moore’s attorney and prosecutors involved in the case said they received no comment. Moore’s father also declined to discuss the situation publicly.
The case is expected to move through the court system in the coming months as investigators continue gathering evidence and attorneys prepare for potential legal proceedings.
