Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi is set to play Tinker Bell in Disney’s upcoming flick, Peter Pan and Wendy.
Shahidi will star alongside British actor Jude Law, who will play Captain Hook, as well as Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson, who will play the titular characters.
Shahidi confirmed the news via her Instagram page.
“Thank you for all of the love. It, truly, means so much to me 💕🧚🏽♂️ I’m excited for this next adventure!” she wrote alongside a drawing of Tinker Bell.
Tinker Bell is a fairy and Pan’s dearest friend and in the past and in the past, the role has been limited to white actresses. Earlier this year, Disney made headlines after they cast grown-ish actress Halle Bailey as Ariel in The Little Mermaid.
In July, news broke that Shahidi had inked an overall deal with ABC Studios, launching her own production company, 7th Sun Productions. Shahidi’s company would develop and produce scripted and alternative television projects for cable alongside her business partner and mother, Keri Shahidi.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with my home family, ABC Studios, in this exciting next chapter, alongside my family,” said Shahidi. “It’s exciting to add our production company to the roster of my peers and mentors who are also actively committed to sharing meaningful stories.”
“We can’t wait to extend and expand our relationship with the incredibly talented Yara Shahidi, who has been a member of the family since black-ish,” said ABC Studios President Jonnie Davis. “When she’s not studying at Harvard and starring in our series’ grown-ish,’ she’s mentoring and inspiring other young people, which makes us all feel like underachievers but also very proud that she’s part of our Studio.”
