‘I Knew My Body Was Ready’: Woman Shares Natural Pregnancy Journey at 39, Challenges Fertility Myths

by Gee NY

A woman is gaining attention online after sharing how she successfully prepared her body for pregnancy naturally at nearly 40, challenging common fears around fertility and so-called “advanced maternal age.”

In a YouTube video posted by Iset By Nature, the creator opened up about her journey to conceiving at 39 and giving birth just before turning 40, stressing preparation, discipline, and holistic health practices.

“I knew I prepared myself for pregnancy and I knew my body was fit and healthy to carry a healthy baby,” she said, pushing back against the stigma often associated with pregnancy after 35.

Challenging the “Advanced Maternal Age” Label

The woman addressed the medical term often used for older pregnancies, noting that while doctors refer to it as “advanced maternal age,” she chose not to internalize the label.

“The biggest myth I want to dispel is that getting pregnant after 35 is going to be a terrible, traumatic challenge,” she explained. “It doesn’t have to be that way.”

Her experience, she said, shows that with intentional preparation, the journey can be smoother than many expect, though she acknowledged that every woman’s path is different.

A Year-Long Commitment to Preparation

Central to her story is the idea that fertility begins long before conception.

She revealed that she spent more than a year making lifestyle changes before trying to get pregnant, including quitting smoking, eliminating alcohol and marijuana use, improving her diet, and committing to regular exercise.

“Anything I identified as an unhealthy habit… I ruled it out completely,” she said.

She also stated the importance of emotional and relational alignment with her partner, noting that both individuals play a role in creating a healthy environment for conception.

Turning to Traditional Herbal Support

A key part of her preparation involved incorporating traditional Jamaican herbal remedies, including sea moss, dog blood bush, and blue vervain, plants she said supported reproductive health, mineral intake, and stress reduction.

While such remedies are widely used in traditional practices, medical experts often advise consulting healthcare professionals before beginning any herbal regimen, especially during pregnancy.

A Different Perspective on Motherhood Timing

Reflecting on her experience, the woman admitted her only regret was not starting earlier.

“If I knew I had loved being a mom so much, I would have done it from a long time,” she said.

Still, her story has resonated with many women navigating fertility concerns later in life, offering an alternative narrative centered on preparation and empowerment.

A Growing Conversation

As global birth rates decline and more women delay motherhood, stories like hers are fueling broader conversations about fertility, health, and the realities of pregnancy beyond traditional timelines.

Her message is ultimately one of intention and self-investment.

“When you have a healthy body, you have a healthy mind,” she said. “There is no limit.”
