‘I Thought I Was Going to Die: Teen Recounts Harrowing Attack by Trusted Friends

by Gee NY

What began as a night out among friends turned into a nightmare for 18-year-old Kayla Horn, who was brutally beaten, robbed, and left on the side of a Fort Worth road early Sunday morning.

“I was tumbling on the street. I thought I was going to die,” Kayla tearfully recalled, her face bearing the bruises and cuts from the attack.

Kayla and a friend, also 18, had met up with several older individuals for a night out, which included drinking and a trip to an after-hours club.

She says tensions flared after she became ill in the car, leading to a shocking and violent outburst.

“Out of nowhere, one of the girls punched me in my mouth and jaw. We just kept getting beat on, beat on,” Kayla said.

The group allegedly stole her phone, money, and jewelry before pushing her out of the vehicle and leaving her injured and alone on Brentwood Stair Road around 6 a.m. Fort Worth police responded to a robbery report at the scene and have since announced aggravated robbery charges against the suspects.

Kayla’s aunt, Jessica, expressed her heartbreak and anger over the incident.

“This could have happened to anybody. She could have been dead. We couldn’t have had her here today,” she said, calling for more severe charges against those responsible. “Nobody should have been drinking. Nobody should have been driving. You just don’t do something like that to somebody.”

While Kayla’s physical injuries will heal, the emotional scars and betrayal from people she trusted remain.

“Something needs to be done,” her aunt stated.

As the investigation continues, Kayla and her family are calling for accountability and justice.
