Jada Pinkett Smith believes the family that psychedelics together stays together.
At least that’s what her firstborn son Jaden Smith said Friday at the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver, where NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers also admitted that taking psychedelics has improved his relationship with his family and friends.
“I think it was my mom, actually, that was really the first one to make that step for the family,” Jaden said of his mother, who introduced the drug to him and his family. “It was just her for a really, really long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved and everybody found it in their own ways.”
The 24-year-old further admitted that using the drugs has helped him gain empathy for his siblings: Willow Smith, 22, and his half-brother Trey Smith, 30.
“Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past,” Jaden said. “But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the [psychedelic] experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that’s profound and beautiful.”
Studies show there are valid remunerations to using psychedelic drugs in moderation and in safe environments, but experts warn the drugs are still illegal and are not a quick fix to solve the problems of life.
Of the most common psychedelics, psilocybin, ayahuasca, LSD and mescaline have been shown in studies to increase emotional empathy. Specifically, psilocybin “has been proven to increase emotional empathy, but not moral decision-making, according to a 2017 study in the International Journal of Neuopsychopharmacology,” according to a USA Today report.
Jaden also confessed that when he and his siblings would get into altercations, they would take psychedelics together, and soon make up afterwards.
“It will actually help us to open up our minds to get out of the old ways of thinking that got us into lots of these arguments and open it up so that it just releases and makes room for you to work it out and massage it out until it’s completely gone,” he concluded.
