Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, now a candidate for the U.S. Senate from Texas, says she is confident her message and political style can energize the Democratic base while also appealing to independents and moderate Republicans.

Speaking about the broader political landscape in Texas, Crockett pointed to what she described as renewed Democratic engagement across the state.

Number one, we have people running for every state house, state Senate, as well as U.S. House race. We haven’t had that since the 90s, she said, framing the moment as an opportunity for party-wide momentum.

Crockett stressed that her campaign strategy centers on unity rather than polarization.

“What I think is most important is that we don’t focus on what divides us, but focus on what unites us,” she said, arguing that Texans are more concerned with practical solutions than partisan battles.

Known in Congress for her outspoken and confrontational style, Crockett said her willingness to fight is a strength, not a liability.

“Our campaign is about putting Texans first,” she said. “I think that the fact that I am a fighter is actually what’s going to motivate all people to want to vote for me.”

Focus on Affordability and Education

Crockett urged Democrats to prioritize everyday economic concerns, often referred to as “bread and butter” issues, including the rising cost of living and access to quality education.

“I think if anyone wants to talk to you about something other than affordability, you need to tell them to talk to the hand,” she said, underscoring her belief that voters are seeking tangible relief rather than abstract political debates.

Gun Policy and Middle Ground

On gun legislation, Crockett described herself as a “gun-toting Texan” while maintaining support for targeted reforms. She said her background as a criminal defense attorney and her experience serving on a mental health care board have shaped her views.

“I believe we need background checks. I believe we need red flag laws,” Crockett said, adding that she believes a workable compromise exists even in a deeply divided political environment.

According to Crockett, there is a “very basic kind of middle ground” on gun policy that could gain broader support if lawmakers focus on public safety rather than ideology.

Crockett’s campaign is positioning itself around unity, economic concerns, and pragmatic policy solutions—an approach she believes can resonate across Texas’s diverse electorate.
