On The Breakfast Club show, Kehlani made it clear that she has full custody of her daughter, Adeya Nomi, and that she’s no longer in contact with her daughter’s father, Javaughn Young-White. This comes amid ongoing questions about their very public custody battle and last year’s social media uproar.
When co-host Loren LoRosa asked if the custody fight was still in play, Kehlani was straightforward: “I have full custody.” And when it came to whether there’s any communication with Young-White, her answer was equally blunt: “No.”
This update comes after more than a year of public back-and-forth that kicked off in 2023 when Young-White accused Kehlani of being involved in a cult and claimed that their then-five-year-old daughter was being cared for by its members. He alleged in court documents that Adeya was being bathed by strangers and even sharing a bed with them, claims that quickly caught headlines and stirred worry online.
Kehlani shot back vigorously at the time, calling those allegations “incredibly hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue.” While she acknowledged that she could handle personal criticism, she drew the line at bringing her child into the fray, saying, “That’s where I absolutely draw the line.”
As the situation developed, Young-White later retracted some of his statements, admitting that the court filings were incomplete and mishandled by his former legal team. He also expressed frustration with media outlets for what he called “sensationalized” reporting and sought retractions, saying his viewpoint had been misrepresented.
Despite this, the damage was already done. For Kehlani, what hurt the most wasn’t the rumors themselves, but seeing very private family matters become fodder for online gossip. In the interview, she shared that she chose to remain silent for most of the ordeal, opting to resolve the matter through legal channels rather than social media.
Now that the custody situation is settled, Kehlani seems focused on finding peace and stability while shielding her daughter from any further harm.
