Killer on the Loose: Police Searching for Man Who Killed Woman While Working at Popular Car Dealership

An Atlanta woman who was gunned down and killed while working at a used car dealership Friday afternoon has left family, friends and a community in mourning.

Gwinnett County police told WSB that 34-year-old Courtney Owens was working at the dealership located on a busy road when a gunman entered the establishment and shot at her.

The shooting took place in the late afternoon at Royal Court Motors dealership at Centerville Highway and Annistown Road in an Atlanta suburb.

“A witness described a male wearing a mask with a firearm leaving the scene on foot,” police said Friday.

Investigators are still looking for the shooter.

Meanwhile, Owens’ family has been left to grieve after senselessly losing one of their own.

“She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and she had a heart of gold,” said a family member who spoke to WSB on anonymity.

Other family members and friends have been left baffled as to why anyone would do this to the victim.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear although detectives believe Owens was likely targeted.

“It’s a possibility that the suspect may have been known to the victim and or the business itself,” said Cpl. Ryan Winderweedle with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

“There are no words to express how much she was loved and will be missed,” said the anonymous family member.

Other loved ones showed an outpouring of support to Owens’ family and shared pictures and videos of the victim on social media in remembrance of her life.

Owens worked at the dealership for at least a year, according to social media.

As of August, the city of Atlanta reported that it had hit a recorded 100 homicides in 2022 alone.

“In a perfect world, we would not have any homicides, but unfortunately we did have homicide 100 yesterday,” said Carven Tyus, APD’s Interim Assistant Police Chief, said at the time the report was released.
