Reality TV star Monique Samuels recently opened up about her emotional journey following her divorce from former NFL player Chris Samuels.
During an honest and heartfelt conversation on the “Dear Future Wifey” podcast, Monique shared her feelings of heartbreak and self-reflection after the end of their marriage, which was finalized in September 2023. The couple had separated a year earlier, in October 2022.
Monique, who rose to fame on The Real Housewives of Potomac and Love & Marriage: D.C., described how difficult it was to come to terms with the breakdown of her relationship. “It’s very hard when you feel like that’s the only option,” she revealed. “I feel like I failed myself. I feel like I could not reach the level of success that I intended for my life when it came to my relationship.”
Monique and Chris Samuels were married for 11 years and became fan favorites for their chemistry and family-oriented storylines on reality TV. However, behind the scenes, cracks in their marriage were forming. The couple shared glimpses of their struggles during their time on Love & Marriage: D.C., where Monique expressed her frustrations with communication issues and unmet emotional needs in their relationship.
Despite their efforts to work through their differences, the couple ultimately decided to part ways. Their decision to divorce came as a shock to fans who admired their dynamic as a power couple balancing fame, family, and business ventures.
During her time on the podcast, Monique went on to describe how the tension in her marriage turned their home into what she called “a battlefield,” further complicated by their shared role as parents to three children. She explained how she felt a deep responsibility to set a better example for her kids.
The former “Real Housewives of Potomac” star emphasized the devastating impact of divorce on children, recounting the experience, “We have three little people that are literally looking at us, and they’re taking notes, and they’re like, ‘Okay, this is what’s normal.’ And it’s not normal.”
