“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Garcelle Beauvais broke down over the recent videos released of Texan Border Patrol agents whipping Haitian migrants at the border.
“I am more than emotional today. My heart breaks when I see the shocking images from Texas where immigrants from my home country of Haiti are being treated so inhumanely. The UN even speaks out,” she said on “The Real.”
“Ladies, I can not tell you, I posted on my IG story today, I’m furious, I’m angry. I hashtag Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. I voted for them. And to see my people being treated this way — they are fleeing because of the earthquakes, because of the disasters, because of the political unrest, and that’s how they are being treated. They are treated as if they are criminals. They are being treated [like] I feel like I’m watching a slave movie.”
She added: “These patrols are on horseback and they whip people, innocent people who want to be treated fairly and get food. And it breaks my heart, and I’m ashamed that this is how Americans treat other immigrants. I came as an immigrant and I did not speak a word of English. My mom brought us here for a better life and we work so hard when we are immigrants. We work so hard and were proud to be in America and that’s not okay.”
The White House has not yet taken any action against the agents but says the incident is being investigated.
Garcelle is a proud Haitian immigrant and made an effort to share her culture with her fellow Housewives this season.
Garcelle has also been in the headlines this week for spilling some details about the upcoming reunion. Garcelle did not let Erika Jayne off the hook this season amid allegations that she and her estranged husband, Tom Girardi, embezzled millions of dollars from his less fortunate clients.
Erika has consistently claimed she had no knowledge of her husband’s shady business tactics — and at times, Garcelle and Sutton Stracke were the only Housewives to ask Erika the hard questions.
However, Garcelle is giving Erika her props for her reunion performance.
“She came to the reunion, it was long hours and a lot was divulged,” Garcelle told the Daily Mail. “She was really honest and she really said a lot of things we wanted answers to but we were not sure she would divulge. She showed up [and] she did her best, which I think is pretty amazing considering what she has been through.”
Garcelle also shared that reunion host Andy Cohen did not go easy on Erika either.
Erika once boasted a traveling glam squad that set her and her husband back $40,000 a month. Since the legal issues, Tom has filed for bankruptcy and the victims are seeking $25 million from the couple.
Last week, Erika was spotted shopping in TJ Maxx. Garcelle says it wasn’t a big deal — she shops there too.
“I think life has changed for her, her reality is different these days, but I also think maybe the people who feel like she is not humble, maybe shopping at TJ Maxx will let people see her in a different light. They will see that she is human and her life has changed. Let’s hope that happens,” Garcelle stated.
