For nearly a decade, Ciara has dealt with ongoing discussions about her husband, Russell Wilson, taking on the role of a father to her son, Future Zahir, from her relationship with rapper Future.

Despite some social media users labeling Wilson a “simp” for being involved with another man’s child, Ciara chooses to rise above the negativity, embracing her husband with admiration and a touch of sass.

During a recent interview with Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and Jess Hilarious, she wasted no time addressing the situation. When questioned about the “simp” remarks, she confidently replied, “Oh my gosh… I don’t even have to respond to that. He’s the most wonderful person I know, the smartest, most intelligent Black man I’ve ever met. That’s my husband.”

Ciara didn’t stop there; she challenged the haters by questioning whether they truly understood what true love really meant. “It’s like someone saying a person doesn’t love someone, but have you ever loved someone, right? Have you ever been loved right?” she asked, challenging the misguided perceptions of masculinity that favor ego over genuine care.

Then she made a statement that caught the attention of many: “There’s a difference between boys and men. To me, men love a certain way. I feel blessed when I look at my husband; that standard is top tier.” This was a clear, nuanced point that many interpreted as a slight toward her ex, Future, who has voiced his discontent with Wilson’s role from the start.

Back in 2015, when Ciara and Wilson first began their relationship, Future criticized her for introducing their son to Wilson so quickly. He expressed outrage during an interview, questioning her decision to bring a man she had just started seeing into their child’s life.

Ciara, however, stood her ground then as well. In response, she pointed out during an appearance on CBS’s This Morning that she had taken care of Future’s children from past relationships while they were together. “What’s the difference here? Wouldn’t you want someone to love your child?” she questioned.

Russell has embraced his role wholeheartedly. In a 2024 podcast, he shared his experience of meeting baby Future for the first time, recalling how he felt that God had entrusted him with the responsibility of raising the child. He described being a stepdad as both a “gift” and an “opportunity,” even likening his role to Joseph’s relationship with Jesus.
