Suspect Robs Woman of Valuables While She Lay Bleeding to Death From Bullet Wound to the Chest

Detroit Police are on the hunt for a suspect who fatally shot a woman then stole her vehicle.

Authorities say shortly before December 29, Tracie Golden was exiting a store on the west side of Michigan’s capital when the perpetrator approached her and shot her in the chest. She was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to the bullet wound.

In surveillance footage obtained by police, the shooter is seen approaching Golden before brandishing a gun and shooting her. He subsequently took the keys to her car and stole her valuables while she lay on the ground bleeding to death. He then fled the scene in her gray 2018 Dodge Journey.

The car was found one day later at a robbery scene at a local Family Dollar store. Investigators are unclear whether the crimes are connected.

While detectives search for the gunman, her husband John Golden has been left befuddled as to why she was senselessly murdered.

“Not for a Dodge Journey. She would have given up the keys, the wallet. Anything,” he told WDIV.

He further stated that his wife was rushed to Sinai Grace hospital, where she worked as a respiratory therapist. “A whirlwind right now. A nonstop whirlwind,” Golden said. “They automatically saw it was Tracie that they were rushing into surgery.”

Detroit Police Chief James White told media outlets that his team is working actively to capture the killer and encourages anyone with information leading to an arrest to contact the authorities.

“I am truly saddened by the senseless murder of Mrs. Golden. She truly represented the best of us. We should all be outraged at the cowardly act that took her from our community. This suspect, and anyone aiding or harboring this individual, will be arrested and we will seek prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. We will use every available resource to bring justice to the Golden family, as we pursue this murderer.”

Officials say the suspect was seen in surveillance footage wearing a black jacket, gloves and dark-colored shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detroit police at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
