Tabitha Brown Shares Inspiring Journey from ‘Big Chop’ to Building Multi-Million Dollar Haircare Brand

Tabitha Brown, affectionately known as “Auntie Tab,” is spreading her signature joy and inspiration, encouraging fans to “dream big” while sharing the origin story of her thriving haircare brand, Donna’s Recipe.

During a recent video, Brown revealed the deeply personal journey behind Donna’s Recipe, which launched in 2021 and has since become a self-funded, multi-million-dollar brand.

The story began in 2017 when Brown decided to do the “Big Chop,” cutting her hair to start fresh.

She affectionately named her hair “Donna” after noticing its unique growth pattern. What started as a lighthearted moment on a live cooking stream soon became a source of empowerment.

“When I started losing my hair in the back due to spinal stenosis, I began mixing oils to help Donna grow back,” Brown shared.

Her personal hair challenges inspired her to create products she could trust, which led to the birth of Donna’s Recipe.

Brown credits faith and persistence for transforming a simple idea into a celebrated brand.

“Naming something gives life to it. It gives you power,” she said.

Since its launch, Donna’s Recipe has flourished, earning spots in major retailers like Ulta Beauty, Stargate, and Amazon.

Brown proudly noted that the brand, co-founded with business partner Gina Woods, remains self-funded and debt-free—a rarity in the competitive beauty industry.

“Two Black women, moms, and wives created this brand from scratch,” Brown said, highlighting the importance of representation in business. “Seeing someone who looks like you, who’s done it, gives you the permission to do it too.”

With her trademark warmth and wisdom, Brown left her fans with a final thought: “Dream big, and when you do that, dream a little bit bigger.”
