Tamar Braxton is prioritizing her health with anti-HIV medication as she navigates Atlanta’s hectic dating scene.

In a video uploaded on social media, the Grammy-nominated singer revealed she’s taking pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). This medication reduces the risk of contracting HIV while emphasizing the importance of self-protection in modern relationships.

Tamar Braxton, 47, didn’t mince words when explaining her decision. “I’m not going for what everybody else is going for. I’m just not going to do that…Like, all of y’all is dating the same dude. Y’all is sharing the same dude,” she said with her signature bluntness. “I’m a one-woman man. And I ain’t sharing my man with the streets, although I’m on PrEP. And I would tell everybody to get on PrEP because prepare yourself for the streets.”

As Tamar regains her independence, she navigates the dating world with purpose and care. Residing in Atlanta, a city famous for its lively yet often intricate dating landscape, she acknowledges that establishing a real connection can be challenging.

“People don’t always play fair, and you’ve got to be careful,” she said. “But I’m out here, I’m trying, and I’m making sure I’m taking care of me along the way.”

Her remarks come months after her split from ex-fiancé Jeremy “JR” Robinson, whom she publicly accused of infidelity in 2024. Tamar Braxton, who was also married to music producer Vincent Herbert from 2008 to 2019 (and alleges he cheated during their marriage), is now approaching romance with a mix of caution, clarity, and proactive health measures.

Tamar Braxton’s transparency about PrEP aligns with her broader mission to advocate for physical and mental wellness. During her career, Tamar has openly discussed her successes and struggles. In 2015, she received a diagnosis of multiple pulmonary emboli, a serious condition that necessitated her withdrawal from Dancing with the Stars.

The Love and War singer has also been vocal about her struggles with anxiety, depression, and a highly publicized suicide attempt in 2020. Since then, she’s become a fierce proponent of therapy and mental health awareness, particularly within the Black community, where stigma often silences such conversations.

Her openness about PrEP brings attention to an often-overlooked aspect of sexual health. As dating norms shift, especially in cities like Atlanta, Tamar’s message underscores the importance of proactive health decisions. By discussing her use of PrEP, she not only protects herself but also normalizes conversations around sexual wellness.
