The victim, who thought she was attending a party, was reportedly beaten over an extended period while her attackers recorded the ordeal. A police report indicates that her clothes were forcibly removed as she was punched, kicked, and hit with rocks.
The young woman managed to escape and was later found walking naked down the street by a Good Samaritan, who called 911.
“She was walking down the street naked. Said somebody jumped her, robbed her,” the caller told dispatchers.
Hours later, the victim’s mother also called the police to report the assault.
Investigators say the suspects include minors as young as 13 and 14. An 18-year-old woman has been charged with kidnapping and assault, and the case is expected to go before a grand jury. One of the younger girls has been identified, but no additional arrests have been made.
Akron Police Captain Michael Miller called the attack “a shock to the conscience” and noted that video of the assault circulating online is deeply disturbing.
“At any point in that process, someone could have made a different decision,” Miller stated. “But no one did.”
Authorities are now working to determine whether any adults were present at the time and have expressed concerns about possible retaliation. The investigation remains ongoing.
