‘The Definition Of An Angel’: Family Of Young Mother Who Died After Gym Fall Honors Her Legacy By Spreading CPR Awareness

by Gee NY

The family of Delrie Rosario, a 36-year-old mother of four who died after a tragic fall on a treadmill, is turning their grief into purpose.

The family is using her story to spread awareness about the life-saving importance of CPR and to honor her lasting legacy of generosity.

On the morning of July 21, 2023, Delrie was working out alongside her sister, Marissa Woods, at a Kent fitness center when she suddenly mis-stepped, fell, and hit her face on a moving treadmill.

Two bystanders rushed to her aid, performing CPR while awaiting emergency services. Despite their efforts and those of medical professionals, Delrie died the following day from bleeding in her brain.

But just days later, her story took on a deeper meaning. Delrie was an organ donor, and on July 25, her family learned that her final act of compassion had saved the lives of others.

“We lost her, but she was able to save other people,” said her sister, Marissa. “It’s the definition of an angel.”

In the weeks since her passing, Marissa has spoken publicly about the need for more widespread CPR training, especially in gyms and fitness centers where medical emergencies can occur without warning.

“If you work in a gym, the least you should know is CPR,” she said, explaining how quickly help can mean the difference between life and death.

According to the American Red Cross, performing CPR immediately after cardiac arrest can double or triple a person’s chance of survival. Yet many fitness facilities lack adequately trained staff, leaving members and loved ones vulnerable when seconds matter most.

Delrie’s story, though devastating, has inspired others to take action — both by enrolling in CPR classes and by signing up as organ donors. Her family says that’s exactly the kind of impact she would have wanted.

“She was bigger than life — the life of the party,” Marissa recalled. “She did everything for her kids. She had such a big heart.”

Delrie leaves behind her husband, four children ranging in age from 2 to 18, her parents, and seven siblings. Her family says they find comfort in knowing that through her organ donations, her spirit continues to live on in the lives she touched — even in death.

“That’s who Delrie was,” Marissa said softly. “Even in her passing, she gave others a chance to live.”
