‘The House Is Gone, But I’m Here’: 97-Year-Old Woman Who Lost Everything in Altadena Fire Remains Cheerful

by Gee NY

In the aftermath of the devastating Altadena (Eaton) Fire, 97-year-old Dorothy has returned to where her home once stood, bringing with her an unwavering spirit that has touched the hearts of thousands.

Despite losing everything, Dorothy remains filled with gratitude.

“All the tea parties and all the fun. The house is gone, but I’m here. Thank you, Father” she said, “I thought I would be devastated, but I’m not.”

A Narrow Escape

Dorothy, who doesn’t remember evacuating, was carried out at the last moment as embers rained down her street.

Her family recalls the terrifying night when they rescued her just in time. But even in the face of unimaginable loss, Dorothy’s positivity remains unshaken.

In a now-viral video shared by @makebigtalk on Instagram, Dorothy reflects on the life she built in her beloved home.

Holding a photo of her late husband, Mr. Frank the mailman, she marvels at the memories rather than mourning the destruction.

“The house is gone, but I’m here. Thank you, Father,” she says in the video. “I thought I would be devastated, but I’m not. I feel like I’ve had a beautiful life.”

She reminisces about past tea parties, family laughter, and even a hilarious moment when her father lost his bathing suit jumping off the diving board. To Dorothy, these joyful memories far outweigh the loss of material things.
