We’ve all been on Twitter and raised an eyebrow at a hardcore Republican supporting Trump, undermining Black Americans’ struggles — only to be surprised that they’re a person of color too.
It could be that you’ve been targeted by one of the many pro-Trump accounts that Twitter suspended recently for posing as Black Trump supporters — when they really aren’t.
The Washington Post first reported on the investigation, exposing more than a dozen accounts using identical language, including the phrase: “YES IM BLACK AND IM VOTING FOR TRUMP!!!”
“Our teams are working diligently to investigate this activity and will take action in line with the Twitter rules if tweets are found to be in violation,” a Twitter spokesman said. “Presently, we’ve taken action on some of the tweets and accounts you referenced for violations of our policies on platform manipulation and spam.”
After almost four years of fueling racial tensions across the country, the Trump administration has become increasingly desperate to secure the Black vote ahead of the November election. The president’s first public appearance after leaving hospital following his COVID-19 diagnosis addressed a rally by Candace Owens’ Blexit Foundation.
His administration also recently sat down with west coast rapper Ice Cube, to help develop Trump’s Platinum Plan. The entertainer denies that the collaboration was an endorsement.
“Every side is the Darkside for us here in America,” Ice Cube tweeted in his own defense. “They’re all the same until something changes for us. They all lie and they all cheat but we can’t afford not to negotiate with whoever is in power or our condition in this country will never change. Our justice is bipartisan.”
