Doja Cat is opening up about her strained relationship with her father, sharing a personal exchange that quickly caught attention online while she was on tour in South Africa.

The Grammy-winning artist recently told fans about a conversation with her father, Dumisani Dlamini, whom she described as largely absent from her life. Doja Cat explained that the two have been apart for most of her life and have never built a close relationship. Raised primarily by her mother in the United States, she grew up between New York and California while her father remained in South Africa.

While performing in Pretoria, Doja Cat said she decided to reach out and invite him to attend her show. According to her, the invitation did not go as planned. She recalled that he declined, telling her he could not make it because she does not contact him often enough or call him on WhatsApp.

In response, Doja Cat said she sent him a provocative link as a prank and told him he could use it to get a ticket to the show. She recounted that her father responded by saying he would pass the information along to his management team, explaining that he was busy with rehearsals and costume preparations.

Despite initially saying he was too busy, she noted that he continued replying to her messages. She then sent the link again after he asked for clarification, which led to confusion on his end. Doja Cat shared that he questioned what he was seeing and expressed uncertainty about whether the link was legitimate or a scam.

The exchange, as she described it, ended with her recounting his reaction in detail, including his attempt to understand the situation. Throughout the story, she maintained a humorous tone while reflecting on the interaction.

Dumisani Dlamini is known for his work as an actor and dancer, including his role in the 1992 film Sarafina! alongside Whoopi Goldberg.
