Whoopi Goldberg is at the center of a heated discussion on the tragic death of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina.

During a recent segment, the co-host of “The View” urged people to refrain from politicizing the incident, stating, “A young woman is dead. Let’s take that into consideration.” She pointed out the concerning fact that the man responsible, who had a history of mental health issues, should not have been on the streets.

“He was a schizophrenic man. His mother begged them to take him and put him away,” Whoopi emphasized. “So stop politicizing this. This is not political. This has to do with how we take care of our sick Americans when they are in need. Nobody in this country wanted that young lady to die.”

While she aimed to highlight the failures in addressing mental health rather than the political implications, many online critics felt her remarks fell short. Some accused her of minimizing the gravity of the crime, while others suggested she was inadvertently doing what she warned against, which is turning a tragedy into a political issue.

The man who fatally stabbed a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee on a train operated by the Charlotte Area Transit System in North Carolina last month is facing federal charges. Decarlos Brown Jr. is alleged to have committed a deadly act on a mass transit system during the stabbing incident on August 22, as stated by the Justice Department.

The case has drawn considerable national attention, particularly after a shocking video of the attack circulated. Notable figures, including President Donald Trump, have called for accountability and enhanced safety measures.
