Whoopi Goldberg, the celebrated EGOT winner, has opened up about her journey with weight loss medication after reaching a critical point on the scale.

On a recent episode of The View, Goldberg shared her experience, revealing that she turned to medication after a health scare and a significant weight gain.

Goldberg disclosed that during the filming of “Till,” a biographical drama about Mamie Till-Bradley, she weighed almost 300 pounds.

This weight gain was exacerbated by a severe health crisis that landed her in the hospital for nearly a month, diagnosed with pneumonia and sepsis. In her recovery, she resorted to using the weight loss medication Mounjaro to shed the pounds.

The admission came in light of Oprah Winfrey’s recent special discussing the use of prescription weight-loss medication, in which Winfrey also revealed her own use of such medication as part of her wellness routine.

Reflecting on her journey, Goldberg emphasized the importance of self-acceptance and kindness towards oneself and others. She stressed the need to move away from judgment and criticism, highlighting the complexities surrounding weight gain and loss.

“My weight has come and gone and up and down, but it’s never been an issue for me because I don’t listen to what other people say about me,” Goldberg stated. “Maybe the key is to stop judging everybody. Maybe that’s the key.”

Goldberg’s candid discussion on The View serves as a reminder of the multifaceted challenges individuals face in managing their weight and the importance of fostering a culture of understanding and empathy.
