Whoopi Goldberg has been working for over 40 years.
The beloved 68-year-old’s breakthrough role came in 1985 with the film The Colour Purple, in which she played the lead character Celie and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. This propelled her to Hollywood stardom, and she starred in numerous successful films.
Since then, she has starred in many box office hits, including Ghost (1990), Sister Act (1992), The Lion King (1994), and The Color Purple (1985).
Whoopi is also an accomplished author and producer. She has written numerous books, including children’s literature, memoirs, and works on social issues. She has produced films, television series, and stage productions, demonstrating her versatility in the entertainment industry.
In a recent interview with ABC, Goldberg was asked what drives her to keep working.
She replied bluntly, “Getting paid,” eliciting laughter from the interviewer.
Goldberg then reiterated her statement, saying, “I enjoy receiving a pay cheque. “I am not going to lie.”
While some may be hesitant to make such a blunt admission, Whoopi embraced it, stating that financial security has allowed her to pursue her passions, whether acting, producing, or sharing her thoughts on The View.
