A New Jersey woman has been left for dead after a hit-and-run incident allegedly involving a person she knew, authorities reported.
Breanna Rowley, 22, of Vineland, has been charged with murder after reportedly striking Caroline Bump, 21, with her 2003 Infiniti at a high rate of speed in Millville on Monday, Oct. 21.
According to prosecutors, the two women were acquainted and were together before the incident.
Surveillance footage reviewed by authorities revealed that Bump was struck at approximately 11:11 p.m. on a road in Millville. Rowley allegedly fled the scene after hitting Bump, leaving the victim severely injured or already deceased without offering assistance or calling for help.
Two hours later, at 1:39 a.m., a passing motorist discovered Bump’s lifeless body on the side of the road. Prosecutors confirmed that Bump’s death was a result of the high-speed impact and the injuries sustained in the incident.
Rowley reportedly attempted to conceal evidence of her involvement by tampering with her car and evading authorities after the crash.
Initially charged with obstruction of justice, hindering apprehension, and evidence tampering on Oct. 25, Rowley was later hit with murder charges on Nov. 7.
Rowley is currently being held in Salem County Jail pending a detention hearing, though it remains unclear whether she has retained legal representation.
Anyone with further information about the incident is urged to contact the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Detective Christopher Johnson at 856-453-0486, ext. 23607.
