Authorities in central Florida believe they may have discovered the body of a woman whose terrifying ordeal of being carjacked at gunpoint was caught on camera.
Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas, 31, was held up while waiting at a red light in Seminole County, moments after calling her husband to alert him that she was being followed.
The harrowing incident unfolded when a gunman, clad in a black hoodie and a ski-style mask, forcibly entered De Aguasvivas’ white Dodge Durango, brandishing what appeared to be an automatic handgun.
Cellphone footage captured by a witness showed the gunman threatening De Aguasvivas with the weapon before commandeering her vehicle.
Sheriff Dennis Lemma revealed that the assailant emerged from a green Acura that had been trailing De Aguasvivas’ car.
The two vehicles then proceeded together after the traffic light changed.
However, the circumstances took a darker turn as De Aguasvivas drove toward a construction area, believed to be known to the suspects, where her car was later discovered engulfed in flames.
Amidst the wreckage, authorities found a body, presumed to be De Aguasvivas, although DNA and dental records are awaited for confirmation, reports NBC News.
The scene also yielded twelve shell casings, hinting at the violence that ensued.
Sheriff Lemma emphasized that this was not a random attack, suggesting that the perpetrators were acquainted with their victim.
De Aguasvivas had phoned her husband before the carjacking to report being followed, but neither sought emergency assistance.
The victim, a resident of Homestead in Miami-Dade County, had journeyed to central Florida purportedly to visit family, yet investigators have not been able to verify any relatives in the area.
She and her husband are affiliated with local businesses, with no prior criminal records in the United States.
Authorities are now intensifying their search for the green Acura and have appealed to the public for any information pertaining to the incident.
