In a recent courtroom appearance on Feb. 1, actress Tiffany Haddish accepted a plea deal related to her DUI arrest in Beverly Hills in Nov. 2023.
The comedian, known for her roles in “Girls Trip” and “Nobody’s Fool,” pleaded no contest to reckless driving, leading to the dismissal of her two misdemeanor DUI charges.
The surprise plea deal came just ahead of her scheduled pretrial appearance on Feb. 14.
As part of the resolution, Haddish has been ordered to serve one year of probation. Additionally, she must complete the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Victim Impact Program (MADD), undergo 40 hours of community service, attend a driver’s education course, and participate in the HAM (Hospital and Morgue) Program. Standard fines are also part of the agreement.
Alex Spiro, Haddish’s attorney, provided a statement expressing her eagerness to move past this chapter. Spiro stated:
“Ms. Haddish has agreed to a simple vehicle code violation – not driving under the influence, which has been dismissed – and looks forward to this being behind her.”
The 44-year-old actress faced charges after being discovered slumped over the wheel of her car in Beverly Hills on Nov. 24, 2023, resulting in one count of misdemeanor DUI and one count of misdemeanor driving with a 0.08 percent blood alcohol level.
This incident followed a previous arrest in January 2022 near Atlanta, where Haddish was found asleep at the wheel.
Known for turning personal experiences into comedy, Haddish addressed her arrest during various public appearances.
She humorously recounted her prayers for a new man, leading to the unexpected arrival of four men in uniform during her Georgia incident.
Fan reactions to the plea deal were mixed, with some expressing the sentiment:
“Must be nice to be rich and have great lawyers and pretty much get off with a slap on the wrist.”
Others emphasized the importance of public figures being accountable for their actions, considering the plea for reckless driving a step toward responsibility.
Haddish is currently participating in the reboot of the game show “Hollywood Squares,” hosted by comedian DC Young Fly.
