A Columbus, Mississippi police officer finds herself on the wrong side of the law after being accused of shoplifting a pair of shoes while on duty.

The incident, which occurred at a local Dick’s Sporting Goods store, led to the immediate termination of Officer Robin Conner, 33.

According to reports from WTVA and the Columbus Dispatch, Conner allegedly stole a $140 pair of shoes from the store just after noon on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Shockingly, she was dressed in her uniform and utilized her patrol car during the alleged theft.

Store employees became suspicious and promptly alerted Conner’s fellow officers, who arrived at the scene and took her into custody.

She was subsequently charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and detained on an $862 surety bond.

Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry expressed his disappointment, labeling the incident as “embarrassing” and asserting that Conner would not receive any special treatment due to her status as an officer.

Despite being initially placed on administrative leave, Conner’s employment was swiftly terminated by the city council in a unanimous 5-0 vote the following day.

Chief Daughtry emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the police force, stating:

“We have a job to do, and we’re held to a higher standard. And the community is just starting to trust us, and to take this gut punch really hurts.”
