Angel Reese is thrilled to join forces with her supposed rival, Caitlin Clark, at this year’s WNBA All-Star game, putting an end to any talk of discord between the two.
The 22-year-old basketball sensations will share the court for the first time in Phoenix in just over a week. After being excluded from this year’s Olympic roster, these rookies will have the opportunity to compete against Team USA as part of the All-Star Team, a selection partially determined by WNBA fan votes.
Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever topped the voting with 700,733 votes, while Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky garnered 381,518 votes.
“I know so many fans are gonna come out to watch both of us,” Reese shared on NBA Today on July 10, according to CBS Sports. “I know a lot of people are just gonna come to Phoenix, I’m sure it’s already sold out. Being able to be in that environment, we’re gonna be playing together for a while so this is not gonna be the [last] time. I know we’ll be All-Stars again, and hopefully, in 2028 we’ll be Olympians together.”
Reese’s impressive rookie season includes a record-breaking streak of 14 consecutive double-doubles.
Clark recently made history as the first rookie in WNBA history to achieve a triple-double in a game against the New York Liberty, one of the league’s top teams.
Clark mentioned the collective achievement of all players, stating:
“I know people are going to be really excited about it, but I hope it doesn’t take away from everybody else. This is a huge accomplishment for everybody on Team USA and everybody on Team WNBA. They all deserve the same praise.”
Since their memorable NCAA championship showdown in 2023, the duo has been at the center of heated discussions that have spilled into their WNBA careers.
Despite their repeated denials of any animosity, fans persist in comparing their performances and vying for the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year title.
“I’m pretty sure the only people that view this as a rivalry is all of you,” Clark candidly remarked during a post-game press conference on June 21. “Like, to us it’s just a game of basketball.”
