Phoenix Mercury star Kahleah Copper is celebrating her latest achievement as she secures a spot on the Team USA women’s basketball roster for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The announcement left Copper emotionally overwhelmed, reflecting on her remarkable journey to this prestigious moment.
Copper has made a significant impact in the WNBA, showcasing her prowess with a league-leading eight 30-point games this season.
Her relentless drive and impressive performances have solidified her reputation as one of the top players in the league, making her Olympic selection a testament to her dedication.
In June, Copper received the news of her Olympic selection in a heartwarming scene that captured her emotional response.
Speaking with For The Win during the WNBA All-Star weekend, Copper shared her reaction when USA Basketball presented her with the jersey bearing her name.
“It was a moment of pure disbelief,” Copper said. “Just the feeling of like… my entire journey was worth it. To see [Brianna Weiss] holding that jersey up with my name on it — it’s just super special. I have a journey that is crazy.”
Copper reflected on her path from being drafted by Washington to her trade to Chicago, where she evolved into a franchise player.
Her journey includes winning an WNBA championship and now stepping onto a much larger stage: the Olympics.
“From that to winning a championship and then a much bigger stage — and playing in the Olympics. I’m just at a loss for words. But I’m just proud of how I was able to navigate through every wave of adversity that hit me in my career and still be able to come out on top,” Copper added.
As Copper prepares for the Games, she’s also looking forward to experiencing Parisian cuisine.
“For sure I’mma have me some good coffee,” she said excitedly. “And, for sure, I’mma have me a good croissant… especially the chocolate ones. They’re crazy. They’re so good. And I’mma have a good cappuccino.”
Kahleah Copper’s inclusion in the Olympic roster highlights her exceptional career and sets the stage for a thrilling competition in Paris.
