Soulful singer Ari Lennox has announced that she will be releasing her Shea Butter Baby Remix EP this Friday.
“Shea Butter Baby Remix EP drops this Friday!! Can you guess who is on the project ?” she tweeted, giving fans no clue as to who would be featured on the project.
Shea Butter Baby was released in 2019 to critical acclaim and her fans were ecstatic over the announcement.
Guesses included Summer Walker, Lucky Daye, Earth Gang, Kehlani and more, but the singer did not confirm or deny their predictions.
In August, Lennox sat down with NPR, where she opened up about why she believes the project is so beloved by her fans.
“I think a lot of people just feel free,” she told the news outlet. “They feel like they’re living their best college life or like their best independent grown woman life like experiencing their own place for the first time or just being able to relate to dating someone who doesn’t have that much money and it’s just like, ‘Well, I don’t care. I love you.’ Or just rockin’ their curls and knowing, like, it’s beautiful and natural is beautiful.”
She also shared her thoughts on frequently being compared to neo-soul artist, Erykah Badu.
“I think it’s a black thing. It’s definitely “she’s black and she’s soulful and she’s natural,” and people don’t know how to think outside of that. And mind you, I did listen to a lot of Erykah Badu, don’t get me wrong,” she explained.
“But I’m also inspired by Missy Elliott, Tweet, SWV, 702, En Vogue, Anita Baker, Oleta Adams, Billy Ocean, D’Angelo, Bilal, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Omarion, Ciara, Ashanti, Petey Pablo, Kanye West, Common, Jazmine Sullivan, Chrisette Michele, and Floetry. I listened to all of them, studied all of them.”
Shea Butter Baby Remix EP drops Friday, March 27.
