For most of her life, Lisa Wright only knew a few painful details about the woman who gave birth to her.
She knew her biological mother was young, just 18 years old, and unable to keep her baby. She knew the adoption had been closed, leaving behind decades of unanswered questions. And like many adoptees, she carried a quiet curiosity about where she came from.
What she never imagined was that her birth mother had already been part of her life for years, smiling back at her from the family television screen every week.
In a twist so unbelievable it sounds scripted for Hollywood, Wright eventually discovered that her biological mother is actress Lynne Moody, best known for starring in the 1970s ABC sitcom That’s My Mama.

And as a child growing up in the 1970s, Wright adored the show.
“We all sat down and watched ‘That’s My Mama’ every week, and who knew?” Wright recalled in 2021, when her story broke. “No idea… And that’s my mama!”
According to Today.com, the life-changing discovery began when Wright’s son encouraged her to take a DNA test at age 54. The results connected her with a man who turned out to be her biological uncle.
Wright reached out cautiously, unsure of what she might uncover.
“I just reached out and said, ‘If you’re open to it, I would love to chat with you to see what all of this means,’” she said.

That call eventually led to another, this time from Moody herself.
For Moody, the moment was overwhelming after more than five decades of separation and heartbreak. She revealed that when Wright was born, hospital staff prevented her from even seeing her newborn daughter.
“When Lisa was born, they covered my face, my eyes, so that I couldn’t see her,” Moody said. “But I could hear her cry. All I could say was, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, baby, I’m sorry.’”

The actress spent decades wondering what became of the child she never got to hold. Though she dreamed of finding her daughter someday, she never truly believed the reunion would happen.
“When I found out that she was my daughter, at that moment, it was like I was giving birth,” Moody said emotionally. “I didn’t know how deep that hole was.”
The two women eventually met in Los Angeles, where they both live, bringing closure to a story shaped by loss, unanswered questions, and extraordinary coincidence.
For Wright, finally meeting the woman she unknowingly admired on television as a little girl felt surreal.
“It was just the most indescribable feeling,” she said.
The emotional reunion has resonated widely online, with many people calling the story a powerful reminder of how family connections can endure across decades, distance, and silence.
What began as a simple DNA search became something far more profound: a daughter discovering that the woman she spent years searching for had been in front of her all along.
