In a powerful Instagram post and accompanying video, Fawn Weaver, the visionary founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, launched Tequila Takedown Part II.
Part two sheds light on the tequila industry’s surprising practices and makes a compelling case for supporting American spirits like bourbon.
In part one of the Instagram series, she ignited a spirited conversation about the purity of American bourbon and additive-free tequilas.
Exposing Misconceptions in the Tequila Industry
In part two, Weaver reveals a little-known truth: many tequilas labeled “100% Blue Agave” may still contain additives such as agave syrup, sugar, or other ingredients post-distillation.
Despite assumptions of purity, these additives can alter the nutritional profile of popular brands, undermining claims that tequila is a healthier alternative to bourbon.
“I thought tequila was like Uncle Nearest—naturally gluten-free, sugar-free, carb-free, and fat-free,” she wrote.
However, she discovered that brands like Don Julio 1942 and Casamigos Reposado, beloved by many, include additives, a fact regulators have made difficult to disclose.
Weaver pointed to a ruling from the CRT (Consejo Regulador del Tequila) that prohibits producers from marketing their tequila as additive-free, citing concerns about consumer confusion.
“Why is it so hard to find out which tequilas are additive-free?” she questioned, calling for transparency in labeling and marketing practices.
Championing American Spirits
Weaver, a trailblazer in the bourbon industry, emphasized the purity of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, an additive-free, 100% natural bourbon rooted in American history.
She highlighted its heritage, shaped by African-American and white distillers, and its commitment to quality, which has made Uncle Nearest the most awarded bourbon in the world for six consecutive years.
“Why are we importing spirits with additives when we have a native spirit like bourbon?” Weaver asked.
She encouraged consumers to choose bourbon, not just for its taste but for its purity and historical significance.
A Call to Action
Weaver’s campaign isn’t just about promoting Uncle Nearest—it’s a rallying cry for consumers to demand transparency and make informed choices.
“Let’s build the next great American brand together,” she declared, reinforcing her mission to elevate American spirits and challenge industry norms.
