Rap icon Eve recently sat down with Angie Martinez to address the persistent rumors that she married her husband, Maximillion Cooper, for his money.
The rap legend and former Ruff Ryders first lady recently opened up about her marriage to British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper. While many have speculated that her luxury lifestyle is all thanks to her husband’s millions, Eve made it crystal clear that she had money before him, and she did the work to create the life she lives today.
“He’s the bonus,” Eve said in a refreshingly candid interview on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast. “But I made this life myself.”
Let’s be real. Eve has been that girl. From platinum albums to blockbuster roles, she’s been building generational wealth since the early 2000s. But after marrying Cooper in 2014, the internet got a little too comfortable slapping a “trophy wife” label on her, assuming her glow-up came with the ring.
“He’s not a billionaire,” she clarified. “He’s not broke, but I ain’t broke either.”
Eve’s net worth is estimated at $25 million. That’s from rapping, acting, hosting, fashion collabs, you name it. Her Grammy-winning anthem “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” with Gwen Stefani still lives rent-free in playlists.
What did change after she met Cooper, though, was her ability to live a softer life.
Eve admitted that after years of surviving in a male-dominated industry, she had to be “hard” to protect herself. That same energy carried over into her relationships, not in a good way. “I would be cursing him out,” she laughed, recalling the early days of dating her now-husband. “He didn’t understand it.”
But over time, she learned to let her guard down. “It took me a few years to realize, wow, I got a partner. I can lean on somebody. I could be soft.”
It’s that vulnerability and growth that’s helped her find peace, not just the luxury. “I’ve done the f–ing work,” she said. “It’s not just a soft life because of the man I’m with.”
