Influencer Nyisha Chu (@nyishaloraine) is drawing attention online after posting a bold Instagram video calling out what she described as the “soft bigotry” of white liberal allyship toward the Black community.
The video, which has quickly gone viral, challenges prevailing narratives around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, sparking both praise and criticism online.
“I know this is going to ruffle some feathers, but it needs to be said,” Chu began in her now-trending clip. “White liberals, you are not saving the Black community. You are holding us back. It’s not allyship, it’s enabling.”

Chu argued that programs such as affirmative action, safe spaces, and watered-down academic standards are harmful rather than empowering.
“We built an entire system around the lie that Black people can’t compete, and we call it justice,” she said, describing such approaches as “pity disguised as progress.”
Referencing historical resilience within other communities, Chu pointed to Jewish survivors of genocide and Asian immigrants who arrived in America with little and built thriving businesses.
“We don’t hand them safe spaces. We don’t glorify victimhood for anyone else,” she said.
Her message, which has been liked more than 46,000 times, urged both white liberals and Black Americans to rethink empowerment.
“Stop designing programs that assume we can’t win without a handicap,” Chu challenged. “If you truly believe in Black excellence, then treat us like the powerful, capable, brilliant people that we are.”
She also addressed members of her own community, the Black community, encouraging a focus on resilience and accountability over victimhood:
“Slavery happened, oppression exists. But our history is also full of resilience and brilliance. We’ve been free for 150 years… and nothing and no one [is] standing in our way but ourselves.”
Chu’s video has sparked a heated conversation in the comments section, with many applauding her for “saying what others won’t,” while others accuse her of downplaying systemic racism.
“You speak so eloquently and with so much wisdom. I hope people hear you and take to heart what you’re saying,” one person praised her.
Regardless, her message has amplified ongoing debates about the effectiveness — and unintended consequences — of DEI policies.
