Woman, 35, Welcomes First Child via IVF on Husband’s 70th Birthday

Glenda Briley, a 35-year-old Alaska woman, has welcomed her first child after a lengthy and emotional IVF journey—giving birth on the same day her husband, Roy Briley, turned 70.

Briley and her husband celebrated the arrival of their son, Roy Briley III, on June 6, 2025, a date that marked both a new chapter in motherhood for Glenda and a milestone birthday for her husband. The baby is now seven months old.

The couple, who have a 35-year age gap, first met in November 2020 after Briley sought business advice from Roy, a semi-retired entrepreneur, while working to establish her own insurance company. What began as a professional exchange quickly evolved into a personal relationship. Within two months, they moved in together, and Roy proposed during a Valentine’s Day dinner in 2022.

While their large age gap is certainly unconventional and the couple have received a fair amount of criticism online, they are insistent that their relationship ‘happens to work for us’

They married later that year in a small ceremony attended by 20 guests and soon decided to pursue having a child together. In September 2022, Briley began IVF treatment, a process complicated by medical and emotional setbacks. Her husband underwent a surgical procedure to extract sperm following an earlier battle with prostate cancer, and Briley endured two miscarriages before successfully becoming pregnant nearly two years later.

Roy, who has eight adult children from a previous marriage, said becoming a father again has been deeply meaningful, while Briley has stressed the strength of their partnership throughout the process. She has described her husband as driven, hardworking, and supportive, noting that despite public scrutiny, their relationship “works for us.”

The couple has faced criticism online, with some questioning their age difference and motives. Briley said she largely ignores negative commentary, adding that many followers have been encouraging and that their story has inspired other age-gap couples struggling with fertility.

Family acceptance also took time. Briley acknowledged that her mother initially questioned the relationship, but attitudes softened as the couple’s commitment became clear.

Now focused on life as new parents, Briley says motherhood has brought them closer and reshaped their priorities. The couple has also shared plans to begin another round of IVF later this year, hopeful about expanding their family.
