Conservative commentator Candace Owens has sharply criticized Donald Trump, accusing him of breaking key campaign promises and drawing the United States into overseas conflicts she says contradict his political platform.
Speaking during a March 9 episode of her YouTube podcast, Owens said the president has failed to deliver on pledges that helped secure his return to the White House in 2024.
“Donald Trump has very clearly betrayed the American people,” Owens said, adding that many supporters who backed his campaign are now disillusioned.
Criticism over foreign policy

Owens pointed specifically to Trump’s prior commitments to reduce gas prices and end so-called “forever wars,” arguing that recent U.S. military actions undermine those promises. She cited reported airstrikes in Iran as evidence of what she described as a shift in policy direction.
According to her remarks, the strikes allegedly hit multiple locations, including civilian areas, and resulted in significant casualties. Owens claimed the developments reflect a broader pattern of escalation rather than de-escalation in U.S. foreign policy.
She also referenced reports of leadership changes in Iran, including the emergence of Mojtaba Khamenei, though such claims have not been independently verified in official U.S. statements.
Personal and political fallout
In her criticism, Owens went further, blaming Trump for U.S. military casualties tied to the conflict and accusing him of prioritizing political considerations over American lives.
She also referenced the death of Charlie Kirk, describing him as the “first casualty” of the Iran conflict, though public records indicate Kirk was fatally shot in Utah in 2025 in an incident not officially linked to overseas military operations.
Owens, once a prominent voice within Trump’s political base, said she has since distanced herself from the movement.
“I’m off that hardcore MAGA Trump train,” she said, suggesting that the president’s leadership no longer aligns with the expectations of his supporters.
Broader political implications
Owens’ remarks highlight growing fractures within segments of Trump’s support base, particularly among commentators who previously championed his “America First” agenda.
Her comments also reflect a wider debate in U.S. politics over foreign intervention, campaign accountability, and the evolving priorities of the current administration.
Despite her criticism, Owens noted that political dissatisfaction is not limited to one side, arguing that Americans are increasingly recognizing cycles of division and unmet expectations across the political spectrum.
