From MVP Trophies to Grandma’s Coin Purse: A’ja Wilson Reveals The Personal Items That Keep Her Grounded

by Gee NY

Even as one of the most dominant forces in women’s basketball, WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson carries reminders of humility, family, and her roots in her everyday bag — items that help her stay grounded amid the glare of stardom.

In a new “In the Bag” feature for Vogue, the Las Vegas Aces center and two-time WNBA MVP opened up about the personal treasures and practical essentials she keeps close while constantly on the move.

Among the most meaningful items is her late grandmother’s coin purse. Wilson doesn’t use it for coins.

“I don’t put coins in it because my heart’s in it,” she said. “It’s a reminder that she’s constantly with me.”

Wilson also carries her Alpha Kappa Alpha lanyard, a symbol of her sorority sisterhood, and three Labubu dolls gifted by fans — one dressed in her signature Nike A’One collection. She admitted she didn’t initially fall for the Labubu trend, but the thoughtful gifts from supporters won her over.

For fun and comfort on the road, the bag holds Uno cards, an octopus Squishmallow that matches one owned by her boyfriend, Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo, and plenty of Sour Patch Kids (blue is her favorite).

Practical items include two pairs of glasses, congestion-relief spray, Tide to Go wipes, and a brow kit.

Wilson explained that maintaining her edges and brows is important to her: “I never wanted to lose the beauty of being a woman and a girl that can still hoop and still crush it on court.”

The feature paints a picture of a superstar who balances elite athletic performance with a deep appreciation for the simple, sentimental things that keep her connected to her identity and loved ones.

Wilson, who led the Aces to the 2025 WNBA title, continues to stand out not only for her on-court dominance but also for the grace and groundedness she brings off it.
