Ja’Dayia Kursh, Arkansas’ first Black rodeo queen, is harnessing the power of reading to inspire children across the state.

At just 24 years old, Kursh has already made history by becoming Arkansas’ inaugural Black rodeo queen at the age of 18.

Now, she’s on a mission to empower children through her children’s book, “Cowgirl J and The Magical Lasso.”

In an interview with KARK, Kursh shared her motivation behind the book, explaining it is crucial for diversity and representation in the rodeo industry.

Through her character, Cowgirl J, Kursh aims to show children that there’s a place for everyone, regardless of their background.

Kursh’s journey to becoming a rodeo queen wasn’t without its challenges. She revealed that she experienced sexual assault at a young age but found solace and healing at her counselor’s ranch, where she bonded with her horse.

Drawing from her own experiences, Kursh wants to instill in children the message that their past does not dictate their future.

“Always keep thriving and keep going. You never know who you will wake up to be,” Kursh said.

As part of her mission to reach as many children as possible, Kursh plans to embark on a book tour across Arkansas starting in late April.

Through her book and personal journey, she hopes to inspire children to embrace their uniqueness and believe in their potential.
