A Georgia Senate hearing has confirmed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis met with Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House before she indicted former president Donald Trump, a lawyer said.
According to Ashley Merchant, Willis and Harris had the meeting on February 28, 2023 before the former president was indicted along with 18 others in August. The indictments were based on allegedly interfering with the 2020 presidential elections in Georgia.
President Joe Biden would eventually win the 2020 elections with Harris as his running mate. Willis would then be elected to district attorney.
White House records obtained by Merchant show that Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens was also in attendance at the White House meeting.

The news prompts questions regarding the content of discussions and whether the Biden administration may have influenced the decision to indict Trump.
Trump maintains his innocence in the face of all 13 election interference charges against him in Georgia, alleging that the case is politically motivated due to his status as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.
During testimony before the Georgia Senate’s special committee on investigations regarding alleged ethical breaches by Willis, Trump’s co-defendant Michael Roman’s lawyer, Merchant, asserted that Willis hired attorney Nathan Wade as a special prosecutor solely due to their personal relationship, further claiming that Wade lacked experience in prosecuting felony cases.
While both Willis and Wade acknowledge their romantic involvement, they assert that it commenced after Willis enlisted Wade for the Trump case.
Merchant informed the committee that she believes Willis and Wade committed perjury during their February testimony regarding their relationship, asserting that this alone warrants their disbarment.
Meanwhile, a Fulton County ethics watchdog originally scheduled to adjudicate complaints against District Attorney Fani Willis on Thursday will no longer be doing so, as per an updated meeting agenda.
The Fulton County Board of Ethics had anticipated addressing two complaints lodged against Willis, prompted by apprehensions over a potential conflict of interest arising from her romantic involvement with a special prosecutor assigned to the election interference case involving former President Trump.
