Tina Knowles recently opened up about a social media mishap where she accidentally liked a post referencing her son-in-law Jay-Z’s sexual assault allegations.
Tina Knowles, the mother of Beyoncé and Solange, is no stranger to social media, but even she isn’t immune to the occasional online faux pas. The 70-year-old recently opened up about a viral Instagram mishap involving her son-in-law Jay-Z during an appearance on The Run-Through with Vogue podcast.
Ms. Tina remembered the moment she inadvertently liked a post about the assault allegations against Jay-Z—a case in which he and Diddy were accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl many years prior. The news spread rapidly online, prompting Tina to clarify the matter publicly. She went on Instagram to inform her followers that her account had been “hacked,” emphasizing that she would never purposely disrespect her family.
“As you all know, I do not play about my family. So if you see something uncharacteristic of me, just know that is not me!”
During the podcast, Tina explained that these unintentional interactions occur more frequently than fans realize. She confessed to sometimes misreading posts as she browses through her feed.
“It’s so funny because you know how many times I’ve liked something that was negative about my own children?” she revealed.
The fashion designer went on to share how her busy schedule sometimes leads to unintended actions online. “If I’m busy and I’m going through the thing, I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s Beyoncé with so and so.’ I like that. And then the fans come back and say, ‘Miss Tina, please erase that because you’re liking some negative post,'” she laughed.
She joked, “I mean, that’s what happens to 70-year-olds on social media. It’s true. I’m always screwing up.”
Although Ms. Tin didn’t directly address the specifics of Jay-Z’s legal troubles on the podcast, Tina Knowles explained that she uses voice-to-text on Instagram. However, her Southern accent sometimes causes the app to spell her words wrong.
She also shared some amusing advice Jay-Z gave her about navigating social media. “My son-in-law, Jay, will say, ‘Listen, if you’re gonna read somebody, at least spell your words right. Don’t misspell your words, Ma. You can’t do that. Take your time and go over and spellcheck your stuff!'”
In true Tina Knowles fashion, she responded with a quip that perfectly encapsulates her no-nonsense attitude: “I don’t have time for that.”
